Do you serve or have served in the defence of Australia?
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Funded Meal Preparation
Assistance with meal preparation may be available to you as a defence force veteran or currently serving member through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Household Services program.
What is available
Extra support can be provided if you need help at home because of a service-related injury or condition. Meal preparation is service available under Household Services. Other common services include cleaning, shopping, laundry, ironing, lawn mowing, and gardening.
Who can receive it
You may be eligible for Household Services if your injury or condition is accepted under the MRCA or DRCA, and you are assessed as having a reasonable requirement for household services. The level of services you can receive is determined by your clinical needs.

How to claim
To claim Household Services, you need to complete a claim form and send it to DVA. You can send the form by:
Email: hhs@dva.gov.au
Post: GPO Box 9998, Brisbane QLD 4001
What happens after you claim
If you are eligible for an assessment, DVA will confirm your eligibility, assess your needs, and determine the level of support you can access. Once approved, DVA will help you choose a suitable service provider and arrange suitable times for the service. You will need to let DVA know if your circumstances change.

Service Providers
Suitable service providers hold an Australian Business Number (ABN), are equipped to deliver a high quality of service, and have completed required checks such as Working with Children Check, Working with Vulnerable People Check, and Police checks. Service providers submit invoices to DVA for services provided, including Household Services.
